44-PAGE LONG SCRIPTS

In Playcrafting and Performance elective today, all (9) of us compiled our 5-page scripts.  We had written them on our own time, and using similar themes.  Thus, we were able to combine some of our characters. I play Mia, a high-school valedictorian who's also a barista at a coffee shop.  The picture below shows my Mia-spiration, if you will.  Note: this is not me, it's just some random coffee shop girl. Smart, spunky, and most importantly - a barista.

The script, unsurprisingly, turned out to be 44 pages long.  I guess I had expected that, seeing that 9x5 is 45, but it seemed a little much.  It means that we all have more lines than we anticipated, and normally, it wouldn't be too bad.  However, the final performance is a week from tomorrow.  Uh oh!

You might be wondering why I now welcome the idea of a 44-page script.  It's a lot of work, but this means that we've actually written a play.  Who knew? All of the characters are unique, the story lines are unique (some tear-jerkers), and we've molded them into a cohesive whole.  I guess it's too soon to expect great things from our yet untitled show (although I'm pulling for Common Grounds or Mocha Moments).  Thank you, Michael, for figuring that one out (though you did call it Mocha "Momentos").

One of my favorite characters, though, has to be Lexi - she's a real b*****.  I love her, but would never, ever, ever, want to hang out with her.  I think she's been unnecessarily villanized, but it's a great plot element.  Not only is she referred to as really annoying by the other characters, she's extremely self-centered and stole her friend's boyfriend.  Ugh! I kind of feel sorry for her. (Bazinga.) Luckily, she and Mia never meet.

Mostly, I really want to thank our awesome drama teacher, Mrs. H. She's the mastermind behind us all.  It takes a lot of gumption to put together a production in a week's time, and she's been really instrumental in helping us craft and put together our scenes.

You should come see the play.  A definite time isn't set yet, but I'll post it here when it is.
